What the job involves
The work depends on the appliance. A dishwasher needs a water supply, a drain connection and a power connection. A washer needs hot and cold hoses and a drain standpipe. A refrigerator with an ice maker needs a water line and a shutoff. A microwave over the range mounts to the wall and cabinet above.
We remove the old appliance if you want, set the new one level and test a full cycle.
Each appliance has small details that often get missed, like removing the transport bolts on a washer or leveling the front of a dishwasher so the door seals properly. We work from the maker's installation sheet so those steps are not skipped.
What we check first
Before we install, we check that the space fits the appliance and that the supply valves, drain and power are in place and in good shape. Old shutoff valves can be stuck or leaking, and rubber hoses can be brittle, so we replace them with new braided lines.
We look at the floor under the old unit for water damage, a sign of a leak you did not know about.
- Measurements of the opening and doorway
- Water shutoff valves and supply lines
- Drain connection and air gap or high loop
- Power outlet and cord type
Why it matters in Arizona
Hard water shortens the life of dishwashers, washers and ice makers, so a clean hookup with a good filter on the ice maker line makes a difference. Water hammer and mineral deposits can also clog the small inlet screens at the back of the appliance, which we check.
A laundry room in a hot garage or utility closet puts extra stress on the machine, so we make sure there is room for airflow around it.
How a visit goes
We confirm the appliance and the space when you book. On the day, we shut off the water and power, disconnect the old unit, move the new one into place, level it and connect the lines. Then we turn the water on, run a cycle, and watch every connection for drips.
We haul away the old unit if you ask.
We can also help with the countertop side of a dishwasher install, such as securing the unit to the underside of the counter so it does not tip forward when the door is open. A good install is quiet and stable.
What affects the cost, and when to call a specialist
The type of appliance, whether we need new valves or lines, the distance to move it and whether we haul away the old one all affect the price. Built-in units and tight spaces take longer.
We give you the full number first.
We do not hook up gas appliances such as gas ranges or dryers, and we do not install new electrical circuits for a 240 volt appliance. Those need a licensed specialist, and we can tell you what to ask for.
“We really appreciated the work that Nathan did for us. He did a great job! He was recommended by a neighbor who was impressed by him also.”
